“Yes, always. My parents raised me the same way,” Jackie didn’t talk very much – at least not to me. So when he did say something I listened attentively. Kevin continued talking with Jackie, Willie, and Solon. While they were talking, Dorothy pulled me aside, “When you travel make sure you keep your bags close with you in the airport. Don’t forget your passport.”
“And just be careful, because people will hate you,”
“Hate me? Why?”
“Because Jackie picked you and not them, they will be thinking, ‘Why you and not me?’”
“Oh…” this was all coming at me so fast. I was imagining the worst, people giving me cut eye everywhere I went, trying to pick fights with me when I was alone, starting rumors about me behind my back, I started getting really scared! But whatever happened I would deal with it, this was the opportunity of a lifetime and I wasn’t about to let some bullies frighten me away from my dream!
The rest of dinner passed uneventfully – well aside from the fact that I was dining with JACKIE CHAN!! Near the end, there was one point when Jackie got up to go to the washroom and Dorothy looked at me and said, “You go too,”
“To make sure he’s okay, go fast!”
I got up quickly and followed Jackie to the bathroom, not sure exactly what to say or do. I waited while he uh…peed, washed up and followed him back to the table. Was I just…? Was I just a bodyguard for Jackie Chan?!?! I think I was!!
We finished dinner and Kevin shook Jackie’s hand, “See you in a month!”
“Yes, see you,” said Jackie coolly.
