CHAPTER 4: THE OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFETIME! (PAGE 6)

Posted on June 2, 2008June 2, 2008 by allenkeng

“Hi Sifu Chan,” it felt weird calling him by his first name, and I didn’t know how else to address him! “This is my mother, my sister, and my uncle.” They each bashfully shook Jackie’s hand one by one.

I wanted more than anything to have a picture with Jackie Chan, but I didn’t feel right asking him. He was such a busy man and I didn’t want to bother him with my own trivial needs. But Jackie noticed the camera in my uncle’s hand and actually said, “Come, we can all take a picture together,” I was soo happy! My uncle held up the camera as my mother, my sister, and I got in close with Jackie! After the picture was taken Dorothy took the camera from my uncle and motioned for him to get in the picture too! Two pictures with Jackie Chan! Oh my god!

We loaded all the luggage into two minivans. I half expected there to be a limousine to take us to the airport but I soon realized a limo was too extravagant. Jackie liked to travel in something that was more…practical. In all the excitement I hadn’t noticed that Andy wasn’t there with us. Dorothy told me he had left earlier. He was going somewhere else to work on another movie. Jackie shook everyone’s hand one more time and then headed to a minivan. I gave my family an emotional hug goodbye and we were off to the airport!

It all happened so fast. After ten minutes of driving my family, friends, and home already seemed so far away. Here I was, in a minivan with Jackie Chan on my way to the airport to fly to Dublin, Ireland to shoot a movie for a month with…shoot, what was his name again? Oh yeah, JACKIE CHAN!!!

The ride there was mainly silent. To everyone else this was just another work day – part of their normal routine. But for me this was an experience of a lifetime! I knew that there were literally a million other people who would’ve KILLED to be where I was right now! I still couldn’t believe everything that had happened! I wanted to ask Jackie a million questions, but everything I thought of just seemed stupid. I mean what do you talk to JACKIE CHAN about?? This man been all over the world, seen hundreds of different people and places, and experienced everything they had to offer! The sum total of my experiences seemed like a drop of water compared to his vast ocean of knowledge.

We finally arrived at the airport. We unloaded out bags and walked in. Dorothy went right away to talk to one of the security guards. I put my bag down and turned to see what they were talking about.
